Little Bow Chic

Bows are beautiful. So, when I was asked to help Mr. Chat knot a bow tie for his black tux this weekend, I fittingly began calling him Little Bow Chic. Here's a bit of bow love to start the weekend off beautiful.

Chic of the Week :: Parisian Powder Room

When I first discovered photos of Betty Lou Phillips' Parisian-chic powder room in House Beautiful, it was love at first sight. Phillips, an acclaimed author and interior designer, holds an affinity for Parisian and Italian design and décor. Her European-inspired bath is a true testament to her luxurious taste and something she has brought to life in her Dallas home.

Phillips certainly has an eye for stylish living. The designer used period pieces such as a 19th-century crystal chandelier, nickel-leg washstands and a vintage glass pharmacy chest to capture an old world charm. She also showered the space in gleaming silver tones and custom accessories etched with French terms such as monsieur and madame. If I were in the market for an elegant spa-like bath, I would love to draw inspiration from Phillips' romantic retreat.

A Date with Destiny

“I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little – if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”  Coco Chanel

There are many quotes from Coco Chanel that speak to my soul. But this one in particular resonates the most and keeps me focused on my dream...a dream that I believe is my destiny. I don't know when destiny will arrive and knock on my door, but when it does I will heed the words of the grande dame of French couture. I will look and feel as pretty as possible...because destiny doesn't knock twice.

Chic of the Week :: Choupette Lagerfeld

This week's Chic of the Week goes to the most fashionable feline in France (and frankly the world), Choupette Lagerfeld. I've been following the musings of this couture-loving cat for a few months. And I must say, they are brilliant. "Françoise, it's time for my afternoon brushing! Fetch my brush. Meow," Choupette tweeted on August 8. My darling cat Manolo, who bites after one stroke of a brush, could learn a thing or two from this pampered pussy cat.

As the posh pet of fashion extraordinaire Karl Lagerfeld, Choupette enjoys a lap (literally) of luxury filled with custom cushions, luscious lace, designer dishes, Goyard trunks and an iPad. This classy cat also has impeccable etiquette. She feasts on croquette and pâté and only dines on the table. Seriously, this cat is my hero.

Having scored a spread in i-D Online and feature in Harper's Bazaar, Choupette's fame doesn't seem to have frolicked to her fluffy little head. According to Karl, Choupette enjoys "cat stuff" like hiding, jumping, destroying paper, chasing flies (in her private garden) and driving her two maids (Françoise and Marjorie) mad. It sounds pretty normal to me. Don't all cats have a private garden and two maids?

Manolo now needs a pretty little pillow that says: Ici, c'est la place du chat.

Watermelon Swash

Watermelon Swash

In honor of National Watermelon Day, swirl up a watermelon swash from elixir extraordinaire (and one of my favorite bloggers), Mrs. Lilien. If watermelons just aren't your thing, Mrs. Lilien's Cocktail Swatchbook offers  a list of other lively libations. Your cocktail cabinet and closest friends will thank you.

{step by step}
Blend 4 cups of cubed watermelon & strain to make 1 1/2 cups of fresh juice.

Blend watermelon juice, the juice of 4 limes, 1 cup of tequila, 5 basil leaves & 1/2 a cup of simple syrup for 30 seconds.

Add 3 cups of ice and puree until smooth.

Pour, serve & enjoy.

All Glossed Up

Today I'm over at gloss48 dishing about some of my favorite beauty products. I know. I know. It's a tough gig writing about the things that make me feel beautiful. Actually, it can be a bit of a challenge since I'm slightly obsessed with sampling every new selection at the cosmetics counter. Luckily, I was able to comb through my treasure trove of beauty tools and make a list of my maintenance must-haves.
